Copyright Information

A copyright is an exclusive right given to an author of an original created work. It is an asset, a legal interest, protected by law. Included in the exclusive rights given to the copyright owner is the right to copy the work into any form, including in print, on screen, or on tape.

The Baptist Churches SA is aware of the Legislation on copyright. Thus, the following Copyright Group Licences have been set up to reduce the cost of licensing for churches.

Churches authorising the communication of copyright music over their telephone system will also require APRA’s Music on Hold.

The Big Studio Movie Licence

The Big Studio Movie Licensing provides a special licence scheme for Churches wishing to show movies at their church.

More information can be obtained from the Heritage HM website.

Does our church buy the CVLI Licence or the Big Studio Movie Licence?

The choice of movie licencing is entirely up to you as these licences cover the authority to show movies from difference studios. Please see the links above to see what studios are covered by each licence.

If you don’t ever show movies (or clips of movies) at church, you do not need either licence.

If you want to be (almost) completely covered, then buy both licences. I say almost completely covered as not every studio in the world is covered by these licences. You still need to check that the movie you want to show is covered.

If you only want to buy one licence, that’s fine. But you need to ensure that ALL the movies you show are covered by that one licence.
