Mike Steven started in the role of Youth & Young Adults Facilitator for Baptist Churches of SA in July 2014.
To help introduce him to the you we asked him a few questions about himself:
Tell us a bit about your family?
I am married to the beautiful Michelle and we have three awesome little kids. We love hanging out and having fun – at home, at playgrounds, on holidays and with friends.
Tell us a bit about your work as a Pastor?
I originally trained and worked as a PE teacher before transitioning into a Pastoral role in 2005 with Golden Grove Baptist Church (Youth Pastor) and Kings Baptist Grammar School (Chaplain). In 2010 I joined the team at Crossway Baptist Church in Melbourne as the Lead Youth Pastor. I feel so blessed with the experiences God has given me and now this opportunity to train and develop the next generation of leaders.
What are you looking forward to in the new role?
I am so pumped and count it a real privilege to come alongside our emerging leaders and help train, coach and develop them. I also have a real sense of anticipation around what God wants to do in building a cohesive movement of disciple making amongst our churches and especially our younger people.
Crows or Power?
Crows of course!
What do you love doing in your spare time?
I love hanging out with Michelle and the kids, having fun and creating memories. I also enjoy running – I’m slow but have completed a few half marathons in recent years, and I love having a hit of golf – love the walk and challenge.
Which Church will you be based at?
As part of my role I will have a local connection at Clovercrest Baptist Church – preaching and leading alongside the team there. We are really looking forward to being part of the family at Clovercrest.
How can we pray for you as you commence in this role?
Please pray for my family as we look for a house and the kids start school and Kinder. Also, please pray I can connect with our youth and young adult pastors and begin to dream with them about what the future can look like under God’s gracious hand.
Thanks Mike, blessings to you and your family – and welcome to the state team and the Baptist churches of SA family!
