Inspire SA is a brilliant space to gain encouragement, ideas, and connections with like-minded thinkers and practitioners who are exploring mission in their local neighbourhoods. It will be full of people eager to serve and represent Jesus in their context.

This year at Inspire, we have invited Ian Dicks (current Baptist Pastor from Vic and previous long time missionary in Africa) to lead our conversations and inspire us as we help people have a life changing encounter with Jesus.

We’ll also hear from Bree Mills (Director of Micro Movements Australia) about what God is up to in a growing movement of micro churches across Australia. And we will hear from others who serve across our movement of churches in brand new LabX sessions.

We are excited to also hear stories from across our movement and together be encouraged in our sessions, have inspired conversations, and enjoy great food and coffee.

Ian Dicks

Pastor of Moonee Ponds Baptist Church

Originally from Adelaide, Ian is seeking to lead a multicultural church in Melbourne as they join God in his mission in their community and beyond.  Married with two adult children, Ian lectures part-time in Intercultural Studies and Mission and worked with Baptist Mission Australia in Malawi for 24 years where he was involved in gospel planting amongst Muslim Yawo.

Ian has worked as a language and culture consultant with BMA and facilitated several community development projects, including the Chiponde-Namwera Afforestation Project, which empowered communities to plant 250,000 seedlings, and a bilingual dictionary project that has produced two dictionaries and two smartphone applications that assist Yawo students to learn English and intercultural workers to learn Ciyawo.

Ian has written and published five books and numerous articles and chapters on intercultural engagement and mission, the most recent being, “Growing Participation in New Communities”, Missiology: An International Review, 2022 and “Envisioning A Home For The Gospel Among Australia’s Urban Hidden Peoples”, Reimagining Home, 2019.

Here’s what people think of Inspire Conference:

Loved putting my head in a different space, out of the weekly cycle, and thinking more broadly. It was great to meet other church leaders and hear what’s happening in their world
